FOUR people have been injured in a serious crash between two vans and a lorry on the M5.

Two lanes were initially been closed at junction 25 southbound of the M5, following the crash which happened at 8.20am.

None of the injuries suffered are thought to be serious.

Police have now reopened all lanes after the vehicles were recovered.

Emergency services were working at the scene for several, and motorists were urged to find alternative routes due to lengthy tailbacks.

A spokesman from South Western Ambulance said: "We were called to M5 junction 25 to reports of a three vehicle road traffic collision.

"There are four casualties, who all have minor back injuries.

"Ambulance personell are still at the scene but nobody has been taken to hospital yet."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 8.20am today to reports of a three vehicle crash involving a lorry and two vans, near the slip road of junction 25 on the M5 southbound.

"Two lanes of traffic have been closed to enable the emergency services to work.

"There are number of minor injuries but none too serious.

"There are lengthy tailbacks on the motorway and people are advised to avoid the area for the forseeable future as emergency services work and recovery of the vehicles takes place."

Taunton Deane Borough Council member Cller Simon Nicholls was stuck in the three-mile tailback for two hours.

He said: "I've been banging on about traffic problems on the M5 and how it's going to get worse.

"I don't care to mention the number of near misses I've seen."
