A CAT which had been trapped behind a wall for several hours was rescued by firefighters.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident at around 6pm on Sunday evening.

Crews from Weymouth attended a block of flats in Salisbury Mews, Fordington.

A snake camera was used to locate the cat before access points were made to retrieve it.

Steve Underhill, a station manager at Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "[The cat] was in the services shaft of a communal area of a block of four flats.

"It had been in there since midnight after crawling through the access to the water mains stopcock.

"The owner had tried to coax him out with some food but it would not come.

"The crew from Weymouth attended as they carry the specialist camera equipment."

Darran Gunter, chief fire officer, congratulated the crews on Twitter.
