STUDENTS are staging a play inspired by the Stonewall Riots tomorrow and Thursday (26).

17 Voices, performing arts students at Weymouth College, have written Crossing the Line.

It is told through the eyes of Joshua, a young gay man struggling to find acceptance in a disapproving society.

Crossing the Line is an adaptation of the true story of the Stonewall Inn. Inspired by real life accounts, 17 Voices celebrates the ultimately uplifting true story of where Gay Pride began.

Director Sarah Turner Higgins said: "This is a story for our time inspired by the Stonewall riots in 1969.

β€œIt is devised by present day students considering the suffering experienced by their young gay contemporaries in the late 1960s.”

Dance teacher Lauren Bill said: "The students have worked tirelessly to raise their own funds to support the development and production of this project.

"It is a pleasure to work alongside such motivated students who have really seized the spirit of the project.

"They have also designed and built the set themselves with support from the lecturing staff."

Crossing the Line will be performed at the Bay Theatre, Weymouth College, tomorrow at 7.30pm and on Thursday at 1pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets can be booked online at www.weymouth.ac.uk/the-bay-theatre or by calling the box office on 01305 208702.
