AN ice cream kiosk in a tourist hot spot made famous by the hit TV drama Broadchurch is to go under the hammer and could fetch as much as £65,000.

The Shack at West Bay, near Bridport, is among the West Country lots listed for sale by the regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson in June.

It is expected to sell between £55,000 and £65,000 when it is sold at auction next month.

Located in Station Road, the freehold of the kiosk-come-garage is in a prominent position in the port on the Jurassic Coast.

Stars are currently filming the third and final series of Broadchurch nearby on the picturesque beach, cliffs and busy harbourside.

Auctioneer Scott Gray said: "This is a rare opportunity to acquire this single-storey kiosk on the Jurassic Coast.

"West Bay becomes incredibly busy during the summer and has become even more of a tourist hot spot thanks to the Broadchurch factor.

"We expect keen interest from those keen to continue commercial use as an ice cream parlour although others may have alternative uses in mind subject to the necessary consents."

Actors filming Broadchurch at West Bay include David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Sarah Parish and Charlie Higson.

Sir Lenny Henry is joining the cast and comedian Roy Hudd who has appeared in a number of shows including Coronation Street, has also been signed up for the final series.

The West Bay and Bridport area is also home to such stars as funnyman Martin Clunes and award-winning rock star PJ Harvey.

As reported in the Echo, Karl Wallace who served on Bridport Town Council until 2015 came under fire in 2014 for starting work on converting the old garage into an ice cream kiosk before getting approval from West Dorset District Council.

Concerns were voiced that the ice cream kiosk could take business away from other retailers but Mr Wallace argued he was just trying to do 'something positive' for West Bay.

Speaking to Mr Wallace he said: "I've owned if for a good few years now and it's just time to move on really."

He said he bought the kiosk for about £26,000 and spent about £15,000 on it but due to his increasing work with supporting migrants in places such as Calais, his family commitments and job as a nurse he felt it was time to sell.

He added: "Somebody else can take it on and run with it. It's a great opportunity."

Clive Emson Auctioneers holds eight rounds of auctions at five locations from Essex to Cornwall on consecutive days every six weeks, this time with a total of 145 lots.

The independent, family-run firm has had an excellent year so far, selling properties to the value of £65 million at a success rate of 85 per cent, well above the national average.

Starting at 11am, the fourth of Clive Emson's eight regional West Country auctions in 2016 takes place at the St Mellion International Resort, St Mellion, Cornwall, on Friday June 17.
