A child aged just two has died suddenly in a Dorset village.

Police are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened after the tragedy.

Officers were on scene in Broadmayne, for much of yesterday along with the ambulance service.

Emergency services were called in the morning to the address.

The boy was found to be ill.

He was rushed to hospital where doctors sadly pronounced that he had died.

Investigations are continuing today.

Last night a spokesman for Dorset Police said: “At 10.28am on Thursday, May 26 officers were called by the ambulance service to an address in Broadmayne.

“A two-year-old boy had been taken seriously ill and was conveyed to Dorset County Hospital where sadly he was pronounced dead.

“At this time the cause of death is unexplained and therefore officers are making enquiries into the circumstances of the death.

“Police are working together with the family and medical specialists to understand what has happened.

“The coroner has been informed and no arrests have been made.”

Onlookers reported seeing a police presence in the village for much of the day.

It is understood two police cars were spotted on the main road during the afternoon.

By late evening, this had been reduced to one police car.

Two forensic vans were also parked nearby. Officers were still at the scene until after 9pm last night and were seen walking back and forth between an address and their vehicles. At this point the road was open and traffic was allowed to pass through.

Dozens of people took to social media describing the incident, with one person saying what had happened was ‘heartbreakingly sad’.

A neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said he had heard that a young child had died. He said emergency services had been on scene all day.
