A SUPERMARKET was filled with smoke following a cylinder explosion.
The incident happened at around 5.15pm at Tesco on Portland.
A spokesman for the fire service said the store was filled with smoke and carbon dioxide.
One shopper described hearing an 'almighty explosion' and said the incident was 'very scary.'
Fire fighters left the scene at 6pm.
A spokesperson from Dorset Fire and Rescue said: "It looks as if something on the inside of the fridge had exploded which led to a quantity of carbon dioxide escaping from the fridge.
"We had monitoring equipment so we could say when it was safe and the store staff knew how to turn everything off."
