A supermarket is set to change hands - but it is understood that no jobs are affected.

The Co-op store in Littlemoor is being sold to The Food Retailer Group along with 35 other former Somerfield stores across the UK.

A spokesperson for the Co-op said: “I can confirm the sale of our Weymouth store to The Food Retailer Group Limited, part of retail investor Hilco’s group.  An important consideration for us was that colleagues would have continued employment as a result of this sale, and this agreement ensures that colleagues will continue in their jobs and have their terms and conditions maintained post-sale.

“The decision to sell the store has been made as part of our ongoing store review process and is in no way a reflection on the hard work and commitment from the 40 colleagues working at the store.”

Littlemoor councillor Mark Tewkesbury said: "It is excellent news that the supermarket is going to stay in Littlemoor and that all the staff are going to be kept on.

"I just hope that the new owners are going to be as community minded as the Coop and it will be nice to see them working in the community."
