A COMMUNITY playgarden got a spring clean from its army of volunteers.

The Chapelhay project, off St Leonard’s Road, saw young and old get involved in the event last Sunday.

A new project saw the team create new artwork to liven up the playgarden.

The group is working to create new boards to reflect the four seasons which will be displayed along the fence.

One of the project organisers, Tina Phelps, said: “We’re just delighted so many kids turned up and they did an amazing job. We asked them what ‘spring’ brought to mind, and it turned out to be birds, flowers, rabbits, bees, and even a mole.

“Over the coming months, we look forward to seeing what ‘summer’, ‘autumn’ and ‘winter’ will conjure up.”

Chairman of the playgarden Clare Sutton thanked the volunteers for their hard work.

She said: “Roy and Tina did an amazing job pulling this together, but the children were just fantastic. They had so many great ideas, and have created something really lovely. Thanks also to all the parents and grandparents who came along to lend a hand.”

The playgarden will be celebrating its tenth anniversary this year on Sunday, July 3, from 11.30am. There will be party games, face painting, arts and crafts, a bouncy castle and a giant birthday cake.

Everyone is invited to come along, and bring a picnic. For further details email Clare Sutton on clare.sutton@zen.co.uk or call 01305 771180.
