A Weymouth man has appeared in court after a woman was allegedly attacked in the town centre.

Sean Vaughan Herman, 29, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates this morning charged with attempted rape and a number of other offences in connection with the alleged incident in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Dorchester Crown Court on July 22.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "The 29-year-old from Weymouth has been charged with attempt rape of a woman aged 16 or over, a sexual assault offence, assault by beating, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and trespass on premises with the intent to commit a relevant offence and is due to appear before Weymouth Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Friday 24 June 2016.

"The alleged offences relate to three separate incidents, including reports that a woman was attacked just off Gloucester Mews in Weymouth town centre in the early hours of Tuesday 21 June."

Dorset Police was called at around 4.15am onTuesday morning to reports of a woman being attacked just off Gloucester Mews in the town centre following a night out.

The woman, aged in her 20s, suffered minor injuries.

Police earlier this week released an appeal and asked anyone with information to get in touch.
