SINGER-songwriter Billy Bragg led thousands of Glastonbury-goers in song as they paid tribute to MP Jo Cox.

Bragg, who lives in West Dorset, led tributes at the Somerset festival.

The festival paid-tribute to the MP, who was killed outside a library in her West Yorkshire constituency earlier this month, with Bragg leading them in a solemn version of We Shall Overcome.

Thousands spilled around the sides of the packed Park Stage to celebrate her life.

A minutes silence was held for Ms Cox as part of the tributes.

The tribute was originally scheduled for Wednesday, which would have been Ms Cox’s 42nd birthday but was pushed back after people were delayed getting to the site due to heavy traffic.

Speaking to the crowd, Bragg paid tribute to the MP.

He said: "It's a terrible irony that we are gathered together today on perhaps the most decisive day in the modern history of our country.

"Whatever happens tomorrow, whatever your politics are, tomorrow morning we will have to begin the process of healing in this country.

"We, all of us, must try to live up to the words of Jo Cox, who said whatever the divisions between us, we have much more in common than the things that divide us.

"Tomorrow we must live by those words."

Bragg was joined on stage by Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis, carrying her new-born baby and more than a hundred women from the crowd who wore sashes in the purple, white and green of the Suffragettes.

The crowd also joined in a march to the Sisterhood, the first women-only venue at the festival, which was officially opened in Ms Cox’s memory with placards bearing her face held aloft by members of Oxfam in the crowd.

An Oxfam worker at the festival Rosie Bishop, called the tribute “amazing” and hailed the “wonderful” atmosphere.

Events were held around the world on Wednesday to pay tribute to the MP.

Following her death, Dorset MPs paid tribute to Ms Cox, with former Labour MP Jim Knight hailing her as a much respected Member of Parliament.

Thomas Mair, 52, has been charged with murdering Ms Cox as well as grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to commit and indictable offence and possession of an offensive weapon.
