POLICE have issued a warning about the importance of teaching your children to be wary of strangers after a school boy was approached at a bus stop.

The boy was waiting in Thornford on Thursday when he was approached by a man in a red vehicle asking if he wanted a lift to Yeovil.

He declined the offer and walked away.

Sherborne police have used this incident to issue a timely reminder to parents and tell their children about ‘stranger danger’, to walk away without talking to a suspicious approaching stranger.

A spokesman for Dorset Police gave advice to parents of school children.

He said: “Children of all ages need to be aware about when it is appropriate to ring 999 - when a crime is taking place or a life is in danger.

“It is also important to try and get as much information as possible about someone if they do approach you, this will then assist the police with investigations. “
