FIVE people were arrested after an alleged assault that left a 17-year-old with facial injuries.

It took place in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Residents in Bath Street awoke to find the road cordoned off and some were even unable to move their cars because officers needed them for potential evidence.

Eyewitnesses said that the road was closed to cars at the Commercial Road end with a police cordon in place halfway down the road to Park Street.

Police officers, community support officers and Crime Scene Investigators were all on the scene yesterday morning.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Officers were called at 4.02am, to reports of an alleged assault on Bath Street, Weymouth.

"A 21-year-old man, 19-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman from Weymouth have been arrested on suspicion of assault and are currently assisting officers with their enquiries.

"An 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man from Weymouth have been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and are currently assisting officers with their enquiries."

The spokesman added: "A 17-year-old boy from Dorchester has sustained facial injuries, not believed to be life-threatening, and has been taken to Dorset County Hospital."

Ambulance services were called to the scene just after 4am. A spokesman said: "There was one casualty with facial injuries. We took him to Dorset County Hospital."

One resident, who did not wish to be named, told the Echo that he was not able to go to work as he couldn’t take his car out.

He said he and other residents had been told their cars’ could be needed for potential evidence.

He said: “I’m pretty shocked. It’s been quite a quiet neighbourhood recently.

“I can’t get to work. It’s a bit concerning.”

The cordon was lifted at 1.57pm.
