CAN YOU help light up the night?

The 10th Weldmar Hospicecare Trust Midnight Walk is set to take place in just a few weeks’ time, but organisers say they need readers’ help to make sure it’s a success.

So far more than 800 women have signed up for the challenge on Saturday, July 16, – to light up the night by walking five, six or ten miles in aid of the hospice.

Dressed in flashing bunny ears, t-shirts and fancy dress outfits the night is always one to raise a smile.

But more marshals are need to make sure the three routes are manned, making the evening fun and safe for everyone.

Organisers have said that if they can’t find more volunteers to marshal soon, that they will have to be reviewed to 'ensure all walkers feel safe and are following the correct route at all times.’

Matt Smith, event manager said: “This year we have gone bigger and better than ever before including a new and improved 10 mile route. These changes are hopefully going to make the event even more successful however it has resulted in us requiring more volunteers than in previous years. We still require more than 60 volunteers, mainly to help with marshalling over the three routes.”

He added: “We are delighted about the amount of women who have already registered to take part in our walk, it is fantastic. However, to ensure the event is as safe, enjoyable and successful as possible we need more volunteers. Marshals especially play an extremely vital role with this event and we need more. No previous experience is necessary.”

Marshals will be needed to help out from 10.30pm on Saturday, July 16, at Weymouth College and will be finished by 3am. All volunteers will be rewarded with bacon rolls and refreshments.

Everyone signing up to walk will get an official Midnight Walk t-shirt, flashing bunny ears, refreshments during and after the walk including a bacon roll, goodies and medal and a whole evening of entertainment.

Ladies have until July 8 to register to take part and the last few places are filling up fast.
