THIS was the earth-shattering moment a 70-year-old bomb was destroyed by a specialist Royal Navy team.
It was discovered in Kimmeridge on Sunday June 26 at 7.45am by a fisherman out on the coast.
Police cordoned off the area, at Friars Head, for several hours as they awaited bomb disposal specialists to arrive.
They advised residents to steer clear, though the bomb was not near any public locations.
Coastguard teams from St Alban’s and Kimmeridge were sent to the scene to assist explosive ordnance disposal technicians from the Royal Navy.
The bomb - which was found to be a 25-pound shell from the Second World War - was located and disposed of at around 5pm on Sunday.
From a safe distance, officers from Kimmeridge Coastguard photographed the moment the bomb erupted in a spout of mud and water.
