Be wowed by all types of machines this weekend with a fine pick of steam shows and flying displays.

If that's not your scene, there's plenty of gardens open and available to wander in.

*IT'S full steam ahead for the Chickerell Steam and Vintage Show this weekend.

This two day show at Knights in the Bottom, Chickerell, will feature steam engines, classic vehicles, food hall, craft, models trains and boats, children's entertainment, trade, music, beer tent, arena events, food stalls and the Chickerell Challenge!

*PAY your respects to the Armed Forces with the Armed Forces Day Civic Service in Dorchester tomorrow.

This year’s event marks the 100th anniversary of both the Battle of Jutland, the only sea battle of the First World War between the German High Seas Fleet and the British Grand Fleet, and the Battle of the Somme.

There will be a parade beginning at 1.25pm from North Square leading to the gardens, via South Street, for a civic service in the Borough Gardens at 1.50pm, followed by a band concert from 2.30pm featuring the Wessex Military Band, the Durnovaria Silver Band and the Dorchester Rock Choir.

There will also be a range of stalls, a display of military vehicles and service displays manned by service and ex-service personnel.

*CELEBRATE the origins of Bridport with the town's Charter Fair tomorrow from 9am to 4pm.

The fair, in South Street and Bucky Doo Square, celebrates Bridport's borough status being granted in 1253, during the reign of King Henry III.

There will be a host of entertainment and stalls offering a broad range fare.

*THERE'S an open garden afternoon tomorrow at Clyfee Dean, Tincleton, near Dorchester.

It will be open between 2pm and 4pm and costs £5 a person including a cream tea. Money raised will go towards Heart Response - a charity supporting orphans and widows primarily in Romania.

*GARDENS are open in Puddletown this weekend between 1pm and 6pm tomorrow and Sunday.

Garden entry tickets and maps are available from St. Mary's Church Room, Puddletown.

There will be tours of the Church Tower from 1pm to 5pm. Free parking is available in Puddletown Surgery car park and it costs £5 to enter around a dozen gardens.

*ON Sunday you can experience the beautiful wild and tended gardens of the privately-owned Bindon Mill and Abbey in Wool.

The abbey, ruins and buildings tell a story dating back to 1172.

They are open from 11am to 4pm and it costs £5. All proceeds go to the British Red Cross.

*HEAD up to Ilchester tomorrow for one of the largest air shows in the country.

RNAS Yeovilton is hosting spectacular flying displays featuring fast jets, historic warbirds, classic jets, helicopters, formation flying teams and aerobatics.

The action takes place between 9am and 5pm.
