THE stars are out shining this summer on stage for the dramatic Dorset Opera Festival.

After his show-stopping appearances in the 2013 and 2014 festivals, Grammy award-winning American bass-baritone Mark S Doss is returning to Dorset to make his debut in the role of Macbeth, with Scottish dramatic soprano Lee Bisset as his Lady.

This year’s festival productions are Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin in a new English translation by Christopher Cowell, and to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Verdi’s Macbeth.

Macbeth will be coming to the Coade Theatre in the magnificent grounds at Bryanston School in Blandford Forum, on July 27, 29 and 30. Eugene Onegin is being staged as part of the festival on July 26, 28 and 30.

After his hugely successful Nemorino last year, Leonardo Capalbo (the Royal Opera’s recent Ismaele and forthcoming Hoffmann) is Macduff, with British bass Clive Bayley as Banquo.

For the festival’s second offering - Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, celebrated British ‘barihunk’ Mark Stone is the title role while the glorious Anna Patalong is Tatyana.

Dorset Opera is a charity aimed at introducing the joys of opera to the young.

Established in 1974, the charity has brought many of the well-known classics to the county, as well as being responsible for many ‘operatic firsts’, including the world stage première of Donizetti’s Gabriella di Vergy (1985) and what is thought to be the first UK stage première of Puccini’s Edgar (1980).
