VISITORS to this year's Dorset County Show are urged to watch the skies this year as some famous visitors will be dropping in.

The Red Devils – the British Army’s Parachute Regiment Display Team – will be dropping in to the Dorset County Show’s Main Ring this September.

The team will be performing a spectacular display above the Main Ring on both show days, September 3 and 4.

The Dorchester event is one of 60 venues across the UK where the display team will be performing this year.

The team, which is manned by 12 serving soldiers from the Parachute Regiment’s three full time battalions, have all served a minimum of three years in a Parachute Regiment battalion and have taken part in at least one operational tour of duty in either the Falkland Islands, Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Sierra Leone and Afghanistan or Iraq.

Set up in 1964, the team have worked closely in the past with the United States Army Parachute Team, nicknamed and commonly known as the Golden Knights.

Dorset County Show Secretary Richard Cuzens said he was over the moon that the Red Devils would be taking part on both days of the show.

Mr Cuzens said: “It is the first time we have had a freefall parachute team at the show. It promises to be an amazing display by the Parachute Regiment who of course are all active service men and women.

“We are delighted to have been selected to have them both for Saturday (1.45pm) and Sunday (12 noon).”

Early bird tickets for the Dorset County Show are available at £11 per adult (children go free) until July 31. Prices will then rise to £13 until midnight August 27, when they are £16.
