MUSIC, dance, food and games from around the world will be on offer in Dorchester's Borough Gardens at a celebration of diversity of cultures.

The Dorset One World Festival is returning for the eighth year and organisers have put on another packed programme for the event on Saturday, August 6.

The festival is aimed at improving understanding of other cultures in Dorset with a line-up of both traditional and modern cultural activities.

The free event runs from noon to 5pm with visitors to the gardens able to enjoy a wide selection of cuisines from the Global Food Village whilst soaking up the sounds of soul, jazz, r&b, rap. reggae, pop, Polish, Bollywood, Indian sitar and tablar.

Food from Africa, the Caribbean, Spain, Italy, India, Thailand and Greece will be on offer as well as traditional British fish and chips and Purbeck ice creams.

A range of workshops and demonstrations include Chinese crafts and costumes, African drumming and Bollywood dancing.

Other highlights will include a performance by local rapper Chucky T, an Nepali Arts Project Exhibition celebrating 200 years of friendship between Britain and Nepal and music from international singer Martyn James.

A Kids Zone will offer crafts, face painting and the Sports Action Van with activities and games for young people

Co-ordinator Nathalie Sherring said: “We hope that residents and visitors come and enjoy the festival and experience a fun, friendly and culturally enriching day."

The event is being supported by the Dorset Race Equality Council.

Chief officer Adnan Chaudry said: "This year’s One World Festival, builds further on the great success of the year before, recognising the incredible richness of cultures that exist in our county and how important it is that we all celebrate being a part of One World, One Humanity.

"This year this has special significance with so many across all of our diverse communities coming together especially after the terrorist attacks and the European Referendum."
