In a statement, Adam's family said: “We are absolutely heartbroken at the loss of our wonderful son, brother and uncle. We can’t begin to put into words how much he will be missed by all of us.

“Adam was a lively character – he really did light up a room when he walked in to it. He was such a friendly person and so full of life, a real cheeky chap who was always smiling. This has now been taken from us.

“We would ask that we are left alone at this difficult time to grieve in private.”

Tributes from friends also flooded in to Adam on Facebook.

Police believe the incident took place at the junction of Braunstone Gate and Western Boulevard in Leicester, with police urging people to come forward with information as the area was busy at the time.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Holvey, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “Although we have made some arrests, we are still really keen to speak to anyone who has not yet contacted us.

“Braunstone Gate and Western Boulevard were busy, there were plenty of people out and about. We know there were taxis in the area and people leaving bars. I believe there are still some members of the public who may have seen what happened but have not yet called us.

“Please take a moment to think back to the early hours of Saturday morning. Were you in the area? Did you see any altercation or a man chasing another man at the junction of Western Boulevard and Braunstone Gate?

“Call us now on 101, or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
