TWO "aggressive" women who burgled a Weymouth guesthouse, taking up to £3,000 worth of goods, have been sentenced to two years imprisonment.

Connie Gibson, aged 38, and Lesley Jones, aged 46, both from Weymouth, pleaded guilty at Dorchester Crown Court to burglary.

Elton Edward, prosecuting, told the court the incident related to January 2 of this year when the defendants broke into The Warwick Court Guesthouse on Abbotsbury Road.

In the early hours of the morning the guesthouse owners were disturbed after hearing voices coming from the bathroom.

The joint owner of the hotel saw Gibson with what he believed to a young boy, who was later identified as Jones.

His wife wrote an impact statement revealing that since the incident she doesn't feel "100 per cent safe" in her own home and she is very "weary" about going out due to fear of seeing the defendants.

Mr Edward told the court there was CCTV in the premises, which the two defendants had attempted to pull the wires out of.

Gibson and Jones then used a wheelie bin to transfer the stolen goods, totalling a value somewhere between £2,000 to £3,000, back to Gibson's address on Wessex Road.

One of the items stolen included an Ipad which was able to be traced by police through the Find My Phone app.

Both defendants were described as being "aggressive and insulting" to police officers when arrested.

Gibson, represented by Adam Norris, has 29 previous convictions for 74 offences.

Mr Norris said Gibson has a "theme of substance abuse" running through her life.

He said: "She is ashamed by her behaviour. She didn't fully comprehend what she was doing. She had become depressed after giving birth a few months earlier. Her son is now nine months old and in temporary foster care. She began her life in care and doesn't want the same for her son. She is full of regret and remorse."

Representing Jones, of King Street, Simon Foster said: "She has shown great understanding of the impact this would have on the victims. She is ashamed of herself. She has fought her drug habit and is motivated to beat it."

The court was told Jones has 35 convictions for 99 offences.

Judge Johnathan Fuller QC said: "After a lot of drink and taking drugs you decided to break into the Warwick Court Guesthouse. It was about a five minute walk from your home Miss Gibson. I have no doubt there was a discussion between you both about the burglary. The impact statement shows your actions have had a lasting effect."

Gibson and Jones were both handed a two year prison sentence.
