A SCHOOLGIRL from Weymouth became a star of the small screen when she took on a role in the BBC’s popular medical drama Casualty.

Mersey Moore, 10, appeared in an episode, called The Fear, as a girl taken into hospital with signs of an illness she may have inherited from her father.

The young performer had the opportunity to share the screen with series regulars such as Crystal Yu and Chloe Howman.

Melanie Moore, Mersey’s mum, said: “It was her first time doing something like that and I am just so proud. I was screaming at the TV when I saw her on the show.

“She got the job through her agent, who has been working really hard to get her work. It’s also just down to her putting herself out there, especially locally.

“The appearance in Casualty was a one-off but we are hoping more things come along.”

Mersey has performed in numerous productions at Weymouth Pavilion and has also taken to the stage across the country through her work with the Stagecoach theatre group. She has been a part of Stagecoach since the age of four.

Mersey made her TV debut in music-themed programme Kushaboom for Nickelodeon when she was seven, celebrating dances from around the world.

The Casualty episode was broadcast on July 16.
