FOOD, music and fun will all be on the menu at this weekend’s food and arts festival.

The fifth annual Dorset Food and Arts Festival takes place on Saturday at Queen Mother Square in Poundbury.

Antiques expert and interior designer Annabel Elliot will open proceedings at 10am and there will be a host of activities throughout the day from 9am until 5pm.

There will be a cream tea sale for charity, sponsored by Meyers Estate Agents, and the main beneficiaries of this year’s event will be Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, Steve Charles Help A Friend charity and Cheeky Monkeys Playgroup.

The free festival is being supported by the Duchy of Cornwall and is being sponsored by a range of local businesses including Waitrose, which has a store in the square, and Hall and Woodhouse, which is set to open the public house and inn.

There will be more than 50 local food and drink stalls, including the regular Poundbury Dorset Farmers Market stallholders, as well as music from local singers and groups throughout the day.

Demonstrations will include one by celebrity chef Lesley Waters, a keen supporter of the festival, as well as a butchery demonstration by Poundbury’s own Brace of Butchers.

New additions will include an Omelette Challenge and Cheese and Beer Matching with Hall and Woodhouse.

Festival chairman Christine Walsh, of the Duchy of Cornwall at Poundbury, said: “It’s all about Dorset and it’s free – so come and support local producers and performers and Dorset’s hospice charity.”
