A FUNDRAISING campaign to help a sick little girl attain her ‘dreams of having her own space’ has been started.

Donna Welch has set up a crowdfunding page in aid of her ten-year-old daughter Hannah, who suffers from Idiopathic Arterial Pulmonary Hypertension (PH), a rare disease with no cure.

The condition causes a build up of blood pressure between the heart and lungs leading to fatigue, joint pain, shortness of breath, and feelings of faintness along with other side effects.

Hannah was diagnosed in March 2011 with an expectancy of three to five years.

Donna, who works as a lunchtime supervisor at Hannah’s school, said: “We have been really lucky that the medication has worked well for Hannah, as it can be aggressive and unpredictable, but it may only be a matter of time before it stops working.”

Currently there are no licensed medications for children with this condition so it is impossible to know what the long term side effects may be.

Donna said her daughter takes a “cocktail of meditation” up to four times a day and has to travel to London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital every three months for treatment.

Hannah, who currently shares a room with her little sister Amy, lives in Sandford, Wareham in a two bedroom house with Donna and Dad Colin.

The strain on her heart and lungs means that performing everyday tasks cans be exhausting and Hannah often finds it hard to run around and keep up with her friends.

Donna said: “She can't go to the park or play out on her own with her friends like other children her own age because she is prone to fainting without warning, and if this does happen it’s an emergency 999 call.

“We want to be able to provide her with her own space so she can have her friends over.”

“Hannah also has a lot of anger and behavioural issues relating to it, if she wants to get away she can’t because she’s stuck in a room with her sister.”

The money raised from the crowdfunding page will help Donna and Colin build a loft conversation and provide enough room for Hannah to live comfortably.

“If worse comes to worse we will have to remortgage, but we hope it doesn’t come to that.

"Any spare money we have we spend creating happy memories for the family."
