WEATHER warnings for strong winds and heavy showers meant lots of events were cancelled at the weekend– but dry off your sun hats, another heat wave is just around the corner.

Saturday was extremely blustery and, with a Met Office yellow warning in place, organisers of a number of festivities decided to postpone.

The Dorchester Cider Festival was due to take place on Saturday at the Borough Gardens.

But expected winds of up to 55pmh led the Dorchester Round Table to postpone the event until Saturday, September 17.

In a statement on Facebook, the round table said: “Thank you for your understanding in ensuring we can present a safe and enjoyable event for everyone, and on behalf of Dorchester Round Table sorry for the inconvenience.

“Our contingency planning kicked in earlier this week when weather warnings were issued and ensured that our cider producers and caterers are ready to put on a great event on the new date for you.

“Please continue to follow this event page for further updates in the coming weeks. We’ll be using the additional time we have to make it worth your wait.”

The Littlemoor Fantastic Family Fun Day was also cancelled. It was due to talk place for its sixth year on Saturday at Top Club Field on Louviers Road.

Organisers cited the open terrain and the yellow weather warning as the reason for calling off the community event.

It is hoped the event can be rescheduled.

A flood alert was also issued for West Bay Harbour for Saturday morning.

However, it looks as though the wild weather was temporary– a ‘Spanish Plume’ is headed our way on Tuesday, bringing temperatures that could make Dorset hotter than Barbados.

But those hoping for a sunny Bank Holiday weekend could be left disappointed– showers, with a mix of cloud and sunny spells and a slightly lower temperature of 20C– is predicted for the end of the week.
