BUS drivers for First Dorset are back on the streets of Weymouth this morning striking against their pay.

Drivers from the Unite union are striking for five days this week on Monday, August 22, Wednesday, August 24 and from Friday, August 26 until Sunday, August 28 inclusive.

The drivers are seeking an eight per cent pay rise to bring their pay in line with counterparts in Yeovil, but First has argued that this is not viable.

This morning the drivers refused to comment after being advised that any comment could lead to them being dismissed from their jobs.

It has been 58 calendar days since the dispute between Unite and First Dorset began, with the union claiming that its drivers are the "poor relations" in First Group when compared to other local branches.

On the First Dorset website, Marc Reddy, Managing Director for First Dorset released a statement saying: "First Dorset is doing everything it can to minimise disruption for our regular bus passengers and those families on holiday in Weymouth and Bridport, and we’re confident 90% of services will run as normal."
