CONDOR Liberation’s sailings have been disrupted after a hoax security alert this morning.

Dorset Police were called to Poole Port around 6.20am this morning and carried out a search of the terminal and the ferry.

Nothing untoward was found and the Liberation was allowed to make its sailing to Jersey - but departed an hour and 15 minutes late.

Sailings throughout the day will also be delayed – an amended timetable is available on the Condor website.

A spokesman for Condor said: “Today’s sailing of Condor Liberation has been disrupted due to an earlier security alert. The departure from Poole had to be delayed whilst Dorset Police conducted searches.

“The alert was found to be a hoax. Naturally we are extremely disappointed that the irresponsible actions of an individual has inconvenienced our customers and diverted Police resources in this way.

“We regret that due to the delayed departure and tidal restrictions in Jersey, it will be necessary to amend today’s service.”

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “Dorset Police received reports of a security alert on the Condor ferry at the terminal in Poole Port at around 6.20am today, Monday 22 August 2016.

“Officers attended the scene and liaised with staff from Condor Ferries. A co-ordinated search of the terminal and vessel was carried out and nothing untoward was found. It is believed that it was a hoax call.

"We take hoaxes extremely seriously. They divert police resources and cause disruption and alarm to the public.

"Anyone with information about the incident should contact police or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
