AS THE Great British Bake Off returns to our screens tonight, one baker has been wowing social media with a very special Weymouth cake.

Verity Wood, of Verity's Creative Cakes, is a cake maker based in Weymouth.

While a lot of her requests are for wedding cakes and more traditional celebration cakes, she recently got a request to make a birthday cake that was all about Weymouth.

The cake was to help celebrate the 80th birthday of a man who she said had been holidaying in Weymouth for many years.

Verity, 30, as well as a family member of the man put their heads together and came up with the creative cake.

It features the Jubilee Clock, a deckchair, the sandy beach, a portion of chips, the old fairy lights, an image of the seafront buildings and of course, a group of seagulls.

It is all completely edible, apart from the wire that the seagulls are on.

The clock, deck chair, chips and seagulls are all hand made sugar paste with the sand made of brown sugar.

It is set on a a sponge with the Weymouth sea front scene and fairy lights on it.

Since being posted on social media this week, the picture has gathered more than 1,300 likes on Facebook with people sharing positive comments about the cake.

Comments included "love this cake, captured Weymouth brilliantly" and "total genius".

Pictures of the cake have also been shared more than 100 times.

Verity said: "It's overwhelming and flattering really. I'm really pleased with the outcome."

She added that she was initially not going to take to the job due to the number of enquiries she has for wedding cakes at this time of year but was glad that she decided to take the task.

Verity said: "But I thought because they love Weymouth as much as people that live her that I would do it. What's not to love about an edible Weymouth in a cake?"

She added that as the man had been coming to the town for a long time the fairy lights would be a touch that he would especially enjoy, as they are a throw back to years gone by.

Verity added that if the recipient could not bring himself to eat the beautiful topper it was completely removable.
