THE COASTGUARD rescue helicopter made a dramatic landing on Weymouth Beach yesterday evening.
Wyke Regis coastguard rescue team said that it was tasked to locate a casualty on the beach who was experiencing hip and shoulder pain as a result of a fall.
After assessment, the casualty was believed to be suffering from a possible dislocated shoulder and was reported to be in significant pain.
The coastguard rescue team said that due to the level of discomfort, and with ambulance services being "fully committed to an ongoing incident", it requested that the casualty be extracted by the Rescue 106 helicopter so they could have access to immediate pain relief and medical facilities.
A landing site was prepared on the beach and further team members arrived to assist with setting up a cordon, working with Dorset Police.
Beach goers were advised of the helicopters imminent arrival.
When the helicopter arrived, the paramedic on board was able to administer immediate pain relief, and when the casualty was stabilised the crew transferred them to a stretcher and onto the helicopter.
The casualty was then taken directly to Dorset County Hospital for further medical treatment and the coastguard rescue team removed the beach restrictions before returning to base.
