Fire crews were called to battle a combine harvester fire last night, in just one of several incidents.

At around 11pm, crews from Maiden Newton and Bridport were called to the combine harvester and cut straw on fire near Eggardon Hill just off the A35.

Crews tackled the fire using three hose reel jets.

The incident was one of several that crews from the area were called to on Tuesday night.

At around 7.45pm, a crew from Dorchester was called to a coffee machine that was on fire in a retail unit in the town.

This was extinguished by dismantling the equipment.

A crew from Weymouth was called at around 8pm to reports of smoke in Wyke Regis but this was confirmed as a controlled burning in Williams Road.

Shortly after this a crew investigated an unknown alarm sounding at Conifers Primary School which was confirmed as a false alarm following an investigation.

Dorchester fire crews were also called to alarms at the council offices at Monkton Park at around 11.20pm but this was a system fault as well as extinguishing a small fire in the Casterbridge Trading Estate at around 8.30pm using a hose reel jet.

Finally, a crew from Maiden Newton was called shortly before 10pm to a vehicle fire on the A37 Wardon Hill but this was a false alarm caused by an overheated engine.
