FUNDRAISERS are getting ready to lace up their dancing shoes and put on a night of fabulous entertainment – all for a good cause.

Weldmar’s Strictly Ballroom event is returning this November and it’s hoped the annual event will raise thousands of pounds for the hospice.

Contestants are already half way through their training with Eileen Spracklen’s School of Dance and have paired up into eight couples to put on a truly memorable evening.

This year the event is even bigger and better than before, and is set to be staged at Weymouth Pavilion on Friday, November 25 in front of a 900-strong audience.

Last year’s event raised £23,000 for the Dorset-wide hospice charity, which provides end-of-life care for those with cancer and other conditions, as well as providing support for their families.

Organiser Katie Slade, events fundraiser at Weldmar, said: “I'm very excited to be organising strictly ballroom once again in 2016, we have a fabulous group of dancers and the Eileen Spracklen School of Dance are working very hard with our couples to give our audience a fantastic show on Friday, November 25 at Weymouth Pavilion Theatre.

“Buy your tickets soon as they are selling quickly. This promises to be an amazing night of entertainment while raising much-needed funds for Weldmar Hospicecare.”

Builders, fitness instructors, deli assistants, traders and even a Dorset Echo reporter will be transformed into dancers for one evening only, with eight dances including the foxtrot, jive, cha-cha and Charleston for the audience to enjoy.

They will not only be dancing for the audience, but for a panel of judges – and it is the crowd who will get to help decide which couple takes away the winning trophy.

The dancers have been working hard to raise funds for the charity, as alongside dancing, they have each pledged to raise £400.

Every penny will go directly to helping fund Weldmar’s services.
