A WOMAN is distraught after her beloved parrot escaped.

Linda Rose from Weymouth is now urging people to keep an eye out for Alfie the African Grey.

And you can keep an ear out too - he apparently sings 'You Are My Sunshine' and knows some of the words to the Black Eyed Peas track 'My Humps' - as well as having a vocabulary of about 1,000 words.

Alfie flew away from Linda's home in Dundee Road at Wyke Regis, close to the Rodwell Trail, on Friday and has not been seen since.

Alfie is grey with a red tail and has a white/grey chest.

Linda, 49, has walked the length of the trail several times but has yet to find him.

She said: "I've had him since he was eight weeks old and he's four-and-a-half now. I live on my own and don't see my family that often so he's my companion.

"I'm devastated. I desperately want him back."

Linda takes Alfie out into the garden in his cage on sunny days. On Friday, she assumes the cage door must have sprung open accidentally without her knowing as she took him outside. She left him for a brief moment to go inside and when she returned Alfie was sitting on top of the outside of the cage.

"He said to me 'come on' like he usually does when I go to feed him, then he just flew away," Linda said.

She advises anyone who sees Alfie to call her on 07551 165325.

If Alfie lands and you are close enough, Linda says a towel or blanket should be thrown over him to stop him flying off.
