The A35 has been closed after power cables fell onto the road.

The road has been shut between the A3052 junction in Charmouth and the A358 junction in Axminster, following the incident yesterday afternoon.

A diversion was put in place as the A3052 through Lyme Regis has been closed this week for building repairs.

A spokesman for Bridport Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Western Power are currently dealing with an electricity pole and cable, which have fallen down on the A35 between Hunters Lodge and Charmouth roundabout.

“The road is likely to be closed for most of the afternoon whilst the cable is repaired. Please be aware that the A3052 through Lyme Regis is currently closed due to roadworks and so follow the official diversion routes.”

A spokesman from Highways England, said: “Diversion routes are available for traffic in both directions.

“Eastbound traffic should join the A358 northbound towards Chard and then use the A30 eastbound towards Crewkerne and the A3066 southbound to re-join the A35 at Bridport. Westbound traffic should use the reverse of this route.

“Road users are advised to allow plenty of extra time for journeys and to use alternative routes if possible.”
