A PROPERTY developer is set to pump £250,000 into modernising a 30-year-old office building.

DJ Property have announced they will invest a quarter of a million pounds into Leanne House, in the centre of the Granby Industrial Estate.

The move comes after BAE Systems, who had occupied the spot for 28 years, relocated to the Weymouth and Portland Land Registry.

Chief executive of DJ Property Mickey Jones said that the defence and aerospace firm’s departure from the 30,000 sq ft plot on Avon Close gave his company a chance to bring it up to date.

He said: “At DJ Property, we are considered as the number one trusted, professional developer of commercial property in South Dorset and therefore it is important that we construct new buildings but also continue to invest in existing buildings on the Granby Industrial Estate.

“Leanne House was constructed in 1987 and leased to BAE Systems plc in 1988.

“BAE occupied the 30,000 sq ft building until September 2016.

“It is our intention to substantially modernise this prime employment site by transforming the offices into a high quality commercial building, similar to those built at Link Park.

“DJ Property is always seeking out investment opportunities in underutilised employment assets.

“That is to say buildings that are tired, sad and have lost direction.

“I will be investing approximately £250,000 in the building and substantially modernising many aspects specifically replacing all doors and windows.

“The building has a large number of windows, allowing lots of natural light into the property.

“This produces a great working environment and it is very energy efficient.”

Mr Jones’ company was one of the first to move onto the Granby Industrial Estate in the 1960s

It has properties on the Granby, Hybris Business Park, Lynch Lane Industrial Estate and in other areas throughout Weymouth and Portland.

About BAE’s departure from his company’s Granby site, Mr Jones said: “It is very good news for South Dorset that BAE have decided to remain based in Weymouth and that their move has given DJ Property the opportunity to redevelop, invest and create additional employment in a prestigious large commercial building on Granby Industrial Estate”.
