BUDDING detectives who solved the clues in Dorchester BID's annual summer competition have been presented with their prizes.

The 2016 Super Sleuth competition ran by Dorchester BID (Business Improvement District) challenged youngsters with hunting round the town for images of plants, animals and landmarks from the Jurassic Coast area and collecting stickers from local businesses to complete their album.

Project director for Dorchester BID said the competition has been well received by all involved.

He said: "The feedback from parents, grandparents and the kids themselves has been wonderful.

"The participating shops have found several new faces who now know they exist and what they have on offer too."

The prize winners received vouchers to spend in store and a special framed picture from artist Peter Montgomery, the local artist who penned all the dinosaur images for the competition.

In the 11 and over category Charlotte Cannon claimed the top prize, with Alexandra Cartwright second and Imogen Brown third.

Charlotte said she was "very pleased" to have won and the search for clues had taken her to many new places in town.

She said: "There were some places I have never seen before."

In the 10 and under section Eliza Stephens won top prize, ahead of Harry and Monty Bratcher-Howard who claimed second and Lucy Hulland in third.

Eliza said she was delighted to win and planned to spend her £70 voucher for Howleys Toymaster on Scalextric.

Artist Peter said he was delighted to present the children each with a dinosaur picture, adding: "I'm always keen to get children interested in paleontology.

"I get so much pleasure from it."

Mr Gordon said: "It seems we now have a whole new generation that knows their Dorset butterflies, plants and even a few more names of dinosaurs.

"We were delighted to work in partnership this year with the Dorset County Museum, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Malcolm Balmer, the Jurassic Coast Trust, Butterfly Conservation (Dorset) and the town council."
