ARTWORKS by current and former pupils and teachers of a Dorset school – including a famous painter and printmaker – will hang side-by-side at an exhibition in London.

A painting by former Turner Prize winner Sir Howard Hodgkin is included in the exhibition 'Bryanston Today'.

The show brings together the work of current and former pupils and teachers from the private Bryanston School near Blandford.

Bryanston is renowned for its proud, creative tradition and has inspired generations of pupils, including Lucian Freud and Sir Terence Conran.

Sir Howard Hodgkin attended Bryanston in the late 1940s. In 1985 he won the Turner Prize and was knighted in 1992. He is regarded as one of the most important artists working in Britain today and is more prolific than ever.

For this exhibition he is lending ‘Bombay Blues' a recent painting in oil on wood.

Other works to be seen include paintings by former Bryanston A-level art student Lucy Neish, 18, who is excited to see her work displayed alongside Sir Howard's.

Her work was chosen for its originality and imagination. It draws on 'childhood memories and precious moments from the past'.

Lucy hopes to develop a career as an artist and has just started a foundation course at Central St Martins in London.

"It's incredible to think my work will be on show alongside such a famous artist," she said.

She explained her work came about from taking photographs during a visit to her late grandmother's house, and then making abstract clay sculptures based on the images fired with a metallic glaze.

The final stage was to produce paintings of the sculptures using oil on canvas with gold leaf added.

Mike Owens, head of art at Bryanston, said: "This show is a chance to catch sight of the Conrans, Hodgkins and Freuds of the future and see their work at the start of their careers.

"It will be an eclectic and exciting exhibition, covering a wide range of styles and media, all chosen for its talent and originality."

‘Bryanston Today' will be the school's third major London art exhibition and the first at Mall Galleries. As with the previous shows, the aim is to enable the Bryanston community to come together to celebrate and share with others the school's rich, diverse creative history and look to the future by inspiring current and future pupils.

‘Bryanston Today' is at Mall Galleries November 8-13.
