TWO people have been taken to hospital after a crash involving four cars and a lorry on the A35, which has now re-opened. 

Dorset Police were called just after 1pm to the crash between the Stinsford Roundabout and the football ground roundabout. 

It was originally believed a lorry and five cars were involved but it was later confirmed to have been four cars. 

Police said that the accident took place near to the junction for St George's Road on the A35. 

The ambulance service is at the scene. 

The A35 was closed at the Stinsford Roundabout as it had been blocked by the crash but it re-opened at around 3pm. 

Police said that a number of people have been injured in the crash but it is not known how severe they are at this time.

They are advising motorists to avoid the area with very heavy traffic in and around Dorchester as a result of the crash.

An ambulance service spokesman said that it was called shortlybefore 1pm to the crash and treated two casualties.

They both suffered minor injuries and have been taken to Dorset County Hospital

A spokeswoman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said that two crews from Dorchester and one from Weymouth attended but nobody was trapped in any of the vehicles.

They helped to make the scene safe before leaving again. 

Traffic is reported to be very heavy on Weymouth Avenue and Bridport Road as a result of the crash.

The vehicles involved were a red Scania articulated lorry registered to a company from Devon, a grey Jaguar registered a man from Hampshire, a white Kia Sportage registered to a woman from Wareham and a white Vauxhall Astra registered to a man from Devon.
