Emergency services have been called to deal with a diesel spill affecting seven roads in west Dorset.

The fire service was called at 2.15pm to Lyme Regis to deal with the spillage.

A spokesman said that it is believed the spillage is coming from a dustcart.

Highways has been called to clean up the spillage as have Dorset Police to put up signage to advice motorists.

The spillage is affecting South Avenue, North Avenue, Anning Road, Coleway Lane, Woodmead Road, Kings Way and Queens Walk.

A spokesman for Dorset County Council said that Highways are attending to deal with the spill.

Signs have been put in place to advise motorists that the road will be slippy and to drive slowly.

The spokesman added that usually to deal with a spillage sand would be put on the road but this is not possible due to the heavy rain.

He also added that it was a Dorset Waste Partnership refuge truck that caused the spillage and as soon as the driver was aware he called the depot to recover the vehicle.
