A CHARITY based in Dorchester is on the move to a new home in the town.

The Royal Voluntary Service in Dorset and Wiltshire has relocated from its former base in Somerleigh Road to a new office at The Old School House at 49 High West Street.

Operations manager Lisa Knight said: "We had simply outgrown our old office some time ago.

"The new building provides us with more space for the team to work from and to receive visitors.

"It is also more accessible, being on the ground floor.

"There will be new signage in the near future to make it more visible from the main street, but for now just come in the front door and follow our signs to lead you to the bottom of the garden.”

The building houses the RVS service managers for the Befriending and the Home Library Service, as well as an admin assistant and admin volunteer. The office also provides support to our other, volunteer-led services such as lunch and social clubs.

The charity works with older people who are vulnerable and isolated or in danger of becoming isolated from their local community.

It recruits and trains volunteers to deliver a wide range of services, identified by older people as something they would like or need such as befriending support, running small errands, accompanied walks, lunch clubs, social clubs and Home Library Service, which is commissioned by the Dorset Library Service.

The charity is holding an official launch on Tuesday, November 1 to mark its relocation, with Mayor of Dorchester Tim Harries due to attend.

The office will be open to anybody wanting to come and visit, speak to the team, and find out about what they do.

There will also be a chance to support RVS fundraising projects such as its knitted penguins and Jam Jar project.

If you can’t make it on November 1 but would like to speak to one of the team, phone the office on 01305 236666 or email dorsetwiltshirehub@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk
