ADAM Fricker believes the young prospects at Bridport have the chance to make a real impact on the club as his side prepare for a tough trip to Buckland on Saturday (3pm).

The Bees’ manager is suffering with a shortage of players for the weekend with five squad members set to miss the clash.

Throughout the season when in this predicament, Fricker has called upon young second-team players to fill the bench and he feels Shaun Annetts’ reserves hold the key to the club’s future.

Speaking about those players, he said: “From my perspective, the future of the club is looking fantastic.

“The third team are doing well in their league and the Reserves, who are made up of 16 and 17-year-olds, are competing.

“In a couple of years it is going to be a fantastic club to be a part of with these players coming through. We’ll always try and put a young player if they are ready.”

Asked who he thought were the hottest prospects at the club, the chief responded: “Alf Ward is a good player. Riley Weedon and Sam (Handyside) are also very good.

“Those three have a lot of potential and Sam is certainly someone we want to get involved next season.”

In more pressing matters, the Bees take on a Buckland side this weekend that are flirting with the top of the table and the manager wants his side to cause them problems.

He added: “On paper, people aren’t looking at us to do anything, so anything we get is a bonus.

“We’ll look to get at them and we are expecting us to give a good account of ourselves.”
