WE'VE already heard from Elaine Pickersgill, an extra in Weymouth and Portland-shot movie Petticoat Pirates.

It was an extra pleasure to then hear from Babs Masters of Weymouth who also appeared as an extra in the 1961 comedy.

We've got these marvellous screen grabs of Babs' five seconds of fame in the film, which starred Charlie Drake and Anne Heywood.

In the film, Babs catches the eye in a yellow bikini as a glamorous extra.

Babs recalls: "In 1961 I auditioned for Petticoat Pirates.

"I was one of the 'frog girls' who took over the warship! I was also in uniform as a Wren

We had a great time sunbathing on the warship, luckily it was June and the weather was lovely.

"As a frog girl I had to climb over the side of the ship and balance on a narrow plank, they then tipped a bucket of water over me so that when I climbed back on board I left a trail of water from my flippers!!

"We did quite a lot of filming at night and loved every minute of it!"

Babs said she looks back on the experience with fond memories.

"There were quite a few local girls taking part and we all enjoyed the experience of filming.

"I did have a film still taken with Charlie Drake and this was published in a national newspaper but I seem to have mislaid my copy."

*Also continuing our look at films with Mike Lee, The Bulldog Breed was made in 1960.

Mike says: "This is a typically funny Wisdom film in which he is persuaded to join the Navy by a Petty Officer after attempting to jump off the cliff overlooking Chesil Beach after his girlfriend jilts him for being a wimp.

"An Echo story says that the crew of the film left Weymouth during early summer because of continual rain but returned in September to finish off.

"The filmmaker Hugh St Clair lived locally for some time. He had a huge career in films before and after the war when he returned to Pinewood Studios and produced Norman Wisdom films from 1955 onwards plus the films made by Morecambe and Wise. He was 100 when he died."
