TEENAGE powerlifter Luke Tolman has got off to a dream start in the sport.

Competing in his very first competition, the 17-year-old, who trains at New Body Fitness in Weymouth, put in a stellar performance at the BPU qualifiers in London.

He managed to take home a hat-trick of official Classic Raw BPU records in the squat, bench press and deadlift.

The youngster recorded a whopping 205kg in the squat, 147.5kg in the bench press and 250kg in the deadlift, giving him a 602.5kg total across the disciplines.

Tolman was in the 82.5kg weight class, weighing 80.6kg on the day of the weigh-in, and has taken the records for his weight category and age group.

He said: “I’m really happy with the outcome and humbled that all of my work has finally paid off.

“I feel extremely grateful for everyone who has helped me along the way. I believe that if you have a goal in mind anything can be achieved as long as you work as hard as possible, stay consistent, and never give up, nothing will stop you.”

From his efforts at the event, Tolman has qualified for two competitions on the world stage next year with one in Russia and the other in Finland.

He added: “I’d like to give a huge thanks to Nick Bell and Julien Lawes for giving me the opportunity to work, learn and train at New Body Fitness and also George from Nutri Go for providing me with my meals to fuel my workouts.”
