HE’S got a very busy night ahead– so everybody’s favourite reindeer took some time out on Portland.

Rudolph has been getting to know the isle and its residents (including other animals).

Rudy the Reindeer recently paid a visit to Portland as part of Tesco Easton’s fundraising efforts.

The cuddly toy has been touring Tesco stores across Dorset and Hampshire with the challenge to show him what life is like at that store.

But staff on Portland took this one step further and took him on a tour to see all the sites and sounds that the isle has to offer.

He visited the coastguard search and rescue helicopter, Fancy’s Farm, Portland Fire Station and Portland Bill lighthouse.

He also enjoyed some spa treatments at Island Beauty and afternoon tea at the Heights Hotel.

He also got to visit the island’s golden postbox, dedicated to Helena Lucas after her success in 2012 and the Olympic rings.

While at the Heights he met a new friend, Misty Rex.

The cuddly reindeer’s tour of was all in aid of the Tesco Charity Partnership, raising money for the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK. Each store is aiming to raise £500.

At the end of the day Rudy returned to Tesco where he met around 20 children and made some new friends.

Mike Deadman from The Heights, said: “It was our pleasure to host afternoon tea for Rudy. At the Heights he met his new friend, Misty Rex, who was delighted to introduce him to the wonders of the Jurassic Coast.”

Debbie Lindoe, community champion at Tesco Portland, was happy with how the event went.

She said: “It was brilliant. It was a good morale booster for the staff. Rudy absolutely loved Portland.”

Debbie added that Christmas can be a stressful time for staff in retail, so it was good to raise some money for charity and make some new friends.

The Tesco Charity Partnership was formed in January 2015 and aims to raise £30million over three years.

It has so far raised £16million for good causes.
