DOGS who've had a 'ruff' time will get lots of help thanks to a funding boost.

Waggy Tails, a charity which shelters and rehomes dogs in Dorset, has won £1,000 following their Aviva Community Fund entry bid.

Waggy Tails is just one of the 450 plus organisations and charities that have won funding to support their inspiring work.

Waggy Tails was founded in 1994 by Shelagh Meredith after she answered an advertisement from a rescue in Wales looking for homes for dogs. Since the charity began, they have rescued and re-homed on average 250 dogs a year. But they want to do more.

The award from the Aviva Community Fund will go towards two projects; the first is a new animal ambulance for collecting emergency rescues, transportation of rescues to the vet, and also bringing rescues to their open days where they are introduced to the public and potential new homes.

The second project is the installation of a hydrotherapy pool for ill or elderly dogs. One of the best forms of treatment to assist them in their recovery and well-being is hydrotherapy and at present, the charity has to make a round trip of 40 miles and pay another facility for this treatment.

Waggy Tails received an overwhelming amount of support from the local community when drumming up 857 votes for their Aviva Community Fund entry. The project used their Facebook and Twitter pages to encourage support.

Waggy Tails is just one of over 450 projects and charities that secured funding from the Aviva Community Fund. The nationwide initiative, now in its second year, launched in September 2016, called upon passionate residents to submit a project close to their heart to be in with a chance of securing funding ranging from £1,000 up to £25,000.
