A CONVICTED murderer from Weymouth has gone on the run.

It is the third time police have searched for Jamie Frater as he has escaped from prison on two occasions previously.

Today's appeal was launched after Frater, who was jailed for stabbing a teacher to death, breached his licence conditions after being released from prison.

Police have advised the public not to approach him, but to immediately call 999.

Frater, 43 and of Weymouth, was jailed for life in 1993 after being convicted of the murder of Geoffrey du Rose in Bournemouth in 1992.

He was released on licence and is now wanted by police after breaching his licence conditions on January 17.

Police have also revealed Frater was wanted on prison recall in 2012 after absconding from a Kent prison in 2012. He handed himself in to police. It was also previously reported that Frater disappeared from an open prison in 2001.

Detective Superintendent Jez Noyce, of Dorset Police, said: “I am releasing a photograph of Jamie Frater in the hope that someone will know his whereabouts.

“Anyone who sees Frater should not approach him, as he could present a risk to the public, but immediately contact Dorset Police on 999.

“There may be various reasons why he has not complied with his licence conditions and I appeal to him directly to make contact with police at the earliest opportunity.”

Frater has connections to the Weymouth and Bournemouth areas.

He is described as white, of medium build, around 5ft 8ins, with short receding brown hair.

Detective Superintendent Noyce continued: “I’d like to assure members of the public that officers are making every effort to find this man as soon as possible.

“I’d also like to remind members of the public that all calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”
