A woman has died after falling ill at the wheel of her car and crashing into a bollard.
The incident took place near Morrisons in Weymouth shortly before 7am yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the Manor Roundabout on Dorchester Road shortly before 7am to a report of a woman who had fallen ill at the wheel.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said they were called to Dorchester Road after the woman, who had suffered a medical episode while driving, struck a small, wooden bollard near the roundabout.
Police have now confirmed that the driver of the car, who was taken to Dorset County Hospital, has sadly died.
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said paramedics attended with two rapid response cars and an ambulance after receiving reports of a one vehicle road traffic collision.
The service said there was one female casualty who they believed suffered a possible cardiac arrest.
A section of Dorchester Road was closed between the roundabout and the turn-off for Morrisons for more than an hour, resulting in heavy traffic.
