A HAIR and beauty salon on Portland is preparing for a busy weekend as news spreads of its charity fundraiser.

Owner of Wax and Relax Hair and Beauty Salon, Alex Parker, and her colleague Cassie Hughes, are hosting the event this Saturday (February 25) in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The fundraising event will run from 9am to 5pm with cuts, blow dries and waxing on offer for donations as well as a raffle, tombola and a cake sale.

Although the event started as something small, a lot of local businesses have donated and shown support and it has spiralled into something bigger and better.

Talking about the upcoming event, Cassie said: "We decided to organise a fundraising event in our salon in aid of Cancer Research UK. The charity is close to both of our hearts.

"It started off as a small event with an initial target of £200 but it has just grown and it's just massive now. We're looking at raising around £1,000.

"I will be doing hair cuts or blow dries and Alex will be doing waxing for donations. We also have more than 50 prizes for our tombola and around 30 prizes for the raffle.

"Our lovely husbands and their friends have volunteered to have their chest, backs and legs waxed and we will be streaming that live on Facebook.

"We've just had a massive response from all the local businesses. We're so grateful. We are overwhelmed by how generous people are.

"We have had Cineworld vouchers donated, Tesco vouchers, hampers, tequila and champagne, Dinosaur Museum tickets - you name it we have it. And it all came in over about two weeks.

"One of our family members has been hit by cancer again and we just want to do all we can to help."

Tombola tickets will cost £1 for five tickets and the raffle costs £2 per strip. There will also be games and music.

Keen bakers are also welcome to bring along more cakes to sell on the day.
