WEYMOUTH Beach is getting its annual spring beautification works this week.

Diggers and trucks moved onto the sands close to the Pavilion end of the beach on Monday.

Until Friday (March 17) the annual works will be taking place to level the beach and get it ready for the new summer season.

Weymouth beach was recently named the top beach in the UK as voted for by Tripadvisor reviewers.

During the works, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council said that access may be restricted to the beach. The council is also urging people to stay away from the machinery.

Signs close to the beach works read: “Weymouth annual beach levelling works. Access along the beach may be restricted at times due to works being carried out. Please stay clear of machinery and keep close control of children and dogs.”

Councillor Jason Osborne borough council spokesman for tourism, culture and harbour, said: “Levelling and regrading works are currently taking place on our award-winning beach.

“These works are carried out each year in order to restore the beach to the best condition possible for the busy season ahead.”
