SO NEXT Friday, March 24, is one of those times when you’d wish someone would hurry up and invent some sort of Sky+ Netflix- style time travelling app for your life so if you can’t be in three places at the same time, at least you can enjoy the other two when you get home.

That’s because there are three fantastic events all on the same night, starting with the welcome return of the mighty Dub Pistols to the Electric Palace in Bridport.

Barry Ashworth’s dub ska hip-hop electro gang are always welcome guests, particularly if you like your guests to tear your house apart and leave you in a sweat-soaked all-danced-out crumpled heap under a table somewhere.

Barry’s been a busy boy lately, what with constant touring with the band, hosting his London Calling radio show and this month releasing his own brand new Balearic funk mix CD for your listening pleasure.

It looks a top night next Friday with support from Birmingham reggae stars Kaiko and Weymouth’s up and coming, hip-hop and happening Cuba Libre who are looking forward to a very busy 2017.

As singer Morgan Geake-Smith tells me: “We’re working a new EP and filming video content for that.

“And we have a host of festivals this summer, including Party in the Park, Jurassic Rocks and Outcider.

“We’re also down for the next Gimme Shelter fundraising at the Wyke Smugglers in Weymouth, and further afield, we’re at the Bearded Theory festival at the end of May.”

Busy, busy, busy and tickets for the Electric Palace gig are £14 from the box office on 01308 429354 but be quick, as there aren’t many left.

But don’t despair of you miss out on a tickets as the Dub Pistols will back down this away on April 7 with a date at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester, with support from Weymouth’s leading bourbon experts Southern Sinners. More about that nearer the time.

And another artist who has been rushed off her little feet recently is Amy Mayes.

She’s currently on a spring tour, which included two great gigs at the Pizza Express jazz club in London’s Soho and the Boisdale club in Canary Wharf, and is launching her five-track debut EP with a gig at Moreton village hall next Friday, March 24 with Mr Boogie Woogie himself, Ben Waters The EP was recorded at Steve Smith’s Conversion studios with Amy’s band of Chris Taylor, Michael Keane and Dan Fraser-Betts, with guests Robbie McIntosh and Ben Waters.

I’ve a had a sneak preview of the EP and it’s as terrific as you’d imagine with the quality of the musicians involved.

Tickets for the Moreton gig are £15 and available from amymayes.co.uk and that includes not only a copy of her EP but also a free glass of bubbly and an evening top-drawer entertainment.

And staying on a jazz theme, The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars will gracing Dorchester Corn Exchange next Friday, March 24.

It’s an evening of world class jazz, narration and archive footage from the club, charting its rise form a run-down basement to the internationally-acclaimed venue it is today.

Certainly one for jazzers everywhere and tickets are £22 from the box office on 01305 262966.

Right, that’s it I’m off to polish my collection of jazz magazines.

Till next time…
