THE RSPCA was called to tend to seal washed up on the beach at Durdle Door.

Winfrith resident Richard Markham spotted the poorly looking visitor whilst out for a dog walk yesterday afternoon. (Friday, 17)

He said: “I thought it was dead when I first saw it because it wasn’t moving. But then it turned around and scratched its back so it was definitely alive. It was quite a long way in from the sea, so probably washed up at high tide.

“I just happened to have the camera with me because I was out to watch the Lynx helicopter pass so managed to get a picture. I had the dog with me so I didn’t go down from the cliff but I could see some people on the beach with it and I saw the RSPCA van park up.”

“I walk along those cliffs every day more or less and it’s not something you see very often.”

Richard said the RSPCA van arrived at 1.20pm.

Anyone spotting disstressed seals should call the RSPCA.
