COASTGUARDS were dispatched to assist a small boat that had suffered engine failure.

Swanage Lifeboat was alerted on Wednesday evening at 6.41.

The small boat in Studland Bay has suffered engine failure and required help getting ashore.

A spokesman for Swanage Lifeboat said: "The Swanage volunteers were just starting to arrive at the lifeboat station for their regular Wednesday night training when their pagers went off.

"Solent Coastguard had received a call from a small boat in Studland Bay that had suffered engine failure and required help getting ashore.

"The inshore lifeboat was launched and soon located the stricken vessel in Studland.

"The casualties were taken off their boat and the boat taken in tow back to Swanage where they were landed safely back ashore at the boatpark.

"The lifeboat crew were then free to carry on their training."
